Top 5 Cities People Are Moving To In Salt Lake City, Utah

by Cody Steck

I wanted to make this article because I've had hundreds of people reach out to me at this point. I've been helping people relocate here to Utah from all over the world over the past two years. Now, as I've done this as I said, hundreds of people have reached out and I've actually successfully helped dozens of people make that relocation here to our beautiful state of Utah. So in this article, I want to talk about the five top cities that people are thinking about moving to when they do make their move here to Utah or where they actually end up moving to, I should say.

So as we jump into this list, I want to talk a little bit about why each of these locations is so popular and why people are moving to the area. I'm also going to give you some thoughts on the type of people who are moving to these areas. And maybe that will help you get some clarity on what type of areas you should consider. Now, of course, this isn't going to be a video where one size fits all for somebody who might be in one situation. They might like one area, but that same person in a different situation could like a different area, right?

There's going to be a lot of mixing and matching going on. This is just going to be kind of an overall image of where people are moving to.

The first city on our list is going to be Provo, Utah. The reason why people move to Provo is number one. Generally, it's because of the tech scene that we have there. A lot of the tech companies that are here in Utah are focused there in Provo. But it's also because of the healthcare and the finance scene that they have there as well. So if you happen to work for one of these companies that are headquartered out of Provo, then you might be looking at moving to this area specifically. Provo is a little bit older of a town.

The big draw and attraction there is BYU, which is Burgundy University, and you've also got Utah Valley University there nearby in Orem. So there is a pretty heavy College influence in the town. But there are also a lot of people who have lived there their whole life and never have any plans to move. So that's the main reason why somebody would want to move to Provo. It's generally because their job is located in that area.

So that's going to be the first item on our list. Now, what I want to say is that as we go through this list, of course, as I go through order, It’s going to get more and more popular. So number five is going to be our most popular city. So make sure to stay till the end of this article.

Now, the second city or area on our list that we're going to talk about here today is going to be Salt Lake City, more like the downtown area, Salt Lake City proper, as well as Sugarhouse and Mill Creek areas.

These areas are extremely popular, and most of the people who want to live downtown or in Sugarhouse or Mill Creek are looking for more of that city type of lifestyle. Usually, but not always usually, it's going to be that younger person or that younger couple who's working professionals, and they want kind of more of that hip, trendy lifestyle. And they want to be able to walk to the coffee shop, walk to the restaurant, walk to the park, or do activities like that. A lot of people moving to the area want to be close to the city or they want to be close to these other amenities. So as you go into the city, you're going to find older homes there.

Sugar House will be slightly newer and then again in Mill Creek, slightly newer. From that, you will get a little bit more bang for your buck in Mill Creek or Sugarhouse as opposed to downtown. But it kind of works in that manner. The further out you go, you get a little bit newer, a little bit bigger home. But it's also going to be a little bit more affordable or at least equivalent to what you pay. So you might get 2500 sqft in Mill Creek, whereas you might only get 2000 sqft if you're looking at Sugar House.

As we jump into city number three, if you're thinking about making a move here to Salt Lake City, to Ogden, Lehi, Provo, Park City, anywhere in between, make sure to get in touch with me. My information will be listed at the end of this article. I absolutely love it when you guys reach out and whether you're looking to move next month or you're not going to be moving for a year or two, reach out to me. Let's discuss what type of home and lifestyle you're looking for, and I can help you narrow your search to see if one of these five cities is going to be the right fit for you.

So city number three that we're going to talk about here on our list is going to be Lehi. Lehi is a very popular area. And the reason being is because you've got a lot of new houses and it's the center. It's the heart of the tech scene here on the Silicon Slopes. So if you're in the tech scene, if you work in software, you work in hardware, you work in sales, you work in anything related to the tech scene. This is probably going to be you're going to be focused somewhere around that Lehi area.

You could be a little bit north into Draper, you could be a little bit south into American Fork or Pleasant Grove. But this is the area where most people are going to be working if they're in that tech scene. So a lot of people are moving to Lehi because you can get nice big new homes that are very attractive and at very reasonable prices. You've also got a lot of families here, and there's a ton to do when it comes to entertainment. Whether you're looking to entertain the kids or you're looking to entertain yourself, there's going to be a lot to do there in Lehi.

A lot of people like Lehi because it’s still kind of gets that built-out, mature suburb type feel. You're not way out in the middle of nowhere. But a lot of people like Lehi for that reason, because you're still close to all of the daily amenities that you're going to need.

Now, the fourth city that I want to talk about, a lot of people have an interest in this is Saratoga Springs. Saratoga Springs is just to the west of Lehi. Now, like I just said, Lehi is an awesome area. If you want to be in the heart of the action, that's where you want to be. However, if you don't mind living a little bit further out and you don't mind being in a newer area, well, then Saratoga Springs is probably the place you want to look. I love Saratoga Springs because it's one of the few places in the States and probably in the country where you can get a mountain view, a city view, and a Lake view all in one. There are tons of great homes going in along the Western corridor of Utah Lake.

There are a lot of homes up on the hillside, and the way that those homes sit, you get awesome views looking east over to the Wasatch Mountains. Now, a couple of things that I do just have to point out about Saratoga Springs is that you are going to be a little bit further away from some of the amenities. Unfortunately, because it is such a new area and it's growing so quickly, a lot of the commercial-type stuff is not quite built out. So you're going to have, like some fast-food restaurants and maybe a couple of actually sit-down restaurants.

But for the most part, you're probably going to be going into Eagle Mountain, the ranches, or even over to Lehi or Draper or American Fork to find those nicer sit-down restaurants. If you're going out for a date night, you're probably going to head over to one of those areas. So Saratoga Springs is just an upcoming area. It has a lot going for it. If I were looking to move to Utah County myself, I would probably consider Saratoga Springs as my very first option.

You can get nice, big, beautiful new homes for a reasonable price compared to what else is out there, and it's just a great spot to live, and I think it's got a lot going for it. All right, guys, now I'm super excited to talk about number five because this is the area where I live.

I'm going to talk about Sandy Draper and Cottonwood heights all in one. Now, for myself, I live in Sandy personally and I love this area. The reason why people want to live in this area is that you get built out mature neighborhoods with really great homes that are super close to the mountains.

Now, if you want easy access to the Valley, you want easy access to downtown, to go skiing, to go hiking, climbing, mountain biking, anything like that. Sandy Draper or Cottonwood heights are going to be the areas that you want to look in. Yes, the homes in this area will be a little bit more expensive compared to what you can get elsewhere. But I think it's worth it. I think it's worth paying that $600,000, $700,000, $800,000 maybe even up to $1,000,000 or more to live in these areas because you get fantastic homes, great views of the mountains, and you're just right there.

Literally, you can get up into the mountains within just five or ten minutes from most places. So I love this area. I grew up in Sandy and then I lived all over salt Lake County before ending up back in Sandy with my family about a year and a half ago. I love this part of town and I think you would love it too. If you want to be close to the mountains, you want to be close to everything and you want to have that built-out, mature neighborhood with big trees and just sidewalks, a nice neighborhood, then make sure to check out my Sandy video.
